Two Words

It seems to me that our world is increasingly negative. I hear people complain all the time about something, about everything, about nothing. Negativity is SO contagious… Like a bad virus, it can spread in a room and before anybody is even aware of it, everybody is commiserating and “venting” together.

Early on, I wrote about a TobyMac song, Speak Life. Have a listen…

Speak Life by TobyMac

This video kicks me in the gut! An awesome visual on how the negativity can bring us to our knees. The media is full of stories about people who take their own lives or the lives of others because of something someone said. Like the song says, “Though it’s crazy, amazing, We can turn a heart with the words we say. Mountains crumble with every syllable. Hope can live or die so Speak Life!”

I’m a word person. My favorite games are word games. In our marriage, I’m the lyric person and my husband is the music man. So these two little words mean a lot to me. They can turn a conversation around. Two little words that can stop a rant in its tracks and make a person think before they open their mouth. Aren’t we supposed to build each other up? Encourage each other? Support and love each other? That’s what 1 Thessalonians 5:11 says anyway.

Ephesians 4:29 – Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear.

Our world can use more joy, more life, more love and a whole lot less snarky-ness.

Raise your thoughts a little higher,
Use your words to inspire,
Joy will fall like rain,
When you speak life with the things you say.

Lift your head a little higher,
Spread the love like fire,
Hope will fall like rain,
When you speak life with the words you say.

      1. We never know what direction our lives will take. At 7 I begged for a piano and some lessons and couldn’t explain why it was so urgent. Now I know. πŸ™‚
