Love Take Me Over

🎶Love, take these words that I’m speaking
Love, take these thoughts that I’m thinking
Love, take me over
Love, fill up all of my space and
Love, stand right here in my place
Love, hear this prayer that I’m praying
Love, take me, Love, take me over
Love, take me over

If you haven’t heard this song from Stephen Curtis Chapman, click here to listen to Love Take Me Over. It’s running through my head early this morning, lifting my spirits. I love the lyrics for the second verse…

This is what I’m sure of, I can only show love
When I really know how loved I am
When it over takes me, then it animates me
Flowing from my heart into my hands

So I’m praying, Father, help my heart believe
That right now You’re singing over me
And fill me up with Your love 🎵

What a simple truth! I can only show love when I really know how loved I am. Romans 5:8 says that “God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” I don’t think any scripture more beautifully describes love than 1 Corinthians 13. “Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never ends.”

Here’s what I think. God cannot go against His own character and His own word. God is perfect love (1 John 4). By loving ourselves and loving others, we abide in God. I saw one definition of abide that said “continue without fading or being lost.” So if I love myself, and I love others, then I will continue in God’s perfect love… It won’t fade… I won’t be lost in the cracks. If it’s not a loving thing to do, then don’t do it. Period. Because every time we do something UNloving, I think Satan scores another point for his team.

Love above all things. Love take me over!!

Memory full. Unable to complete backup.

OUR MINDS. They’re recording devices, aren’t they? Tape recorders. DVR’s. They take it all in and keep it. Whatever “it” may be. I don’t know about you, but sometimes I feel as though my brain can’t possibly hold more! Sometimes, I want to dump some of the old information just so I can take in the new. Unfortunately, some of the deleted info is stuff I should keep, and some of the new info is stuff I really don’t need.

Either way, the tape recorder in our minds is constantly running, recording new information or replaying old information. Memories. Wouldn’t it be wonderful if it only played back the good stuff? Sadly, it doesn’t work that way. At least not if the Devil has anything to say about it.

Stand face to face with the younger me

This is the line running through my head this morning. Words from Fix My Eyes by for KING & COUNTRY. And that’s exactly what Satan would have us do every day of our lives… Hit rewind and re-live all the “terrible, awful, horrible, no good, very bad” things we’ve ever done. Click delete and get rid of the positive in our lives… The good we’ve done, the blessings we have, the love in our lives.

What happens when we “stand face to face with the younger me?” Our human-ness condemns us. We see the flaws. We remember the wrong we did. Or the wrong done TO us. Some of us see a person we never want to be again. Others see a person we wish we could be again. Any of these scenarios are exactly where Satan wants us… Living in the past. Afraid to move forward in Christ. Afraid of the freedom we have in our precious Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Romans 8:1

There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.

NO condemnation. It doesn’t say there is some condemnation. It doesn’t say there will be condemnation. THERE. IS. NO. CONDEMNATION. None. Zip. Zilch. Nada. If we are in Christ, we can stand face to face with our younger selves or look forward to our future selves with full freedom and assurance, “forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead,” we must “press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.”

I love how God shows me his love and guides me through the music. Often I get something completely different from the same song. Click here to read Fix My Eyes from May 30th

Sometimes life knocks us down. Correction… Most of the time life knocks us down. Some of us spend more time on the ground or the floor than we do standing upright, and we have no explanation for it. So why do some of us keep getting up again? Why do some of us just stay down so we don’t have so far to fall?

There’s a little line in my head from Only Grace by Matthew West

Get back up
Get back up
Get back up again

I know I keep getting back up again because I have Hope. Capital “H” Hope… I have put my trust in the One who can carry me through until He returns. And I’ll be honest with you, sometimes I don’t want to get back up. Sometimes it’s just too hard!! I can’t do it alone, but I have the Holy Spirit with me and the promise of Christ’s return to help me stand up one more time. And I have others in the body of Christ to help me.

There’s only grace
There’s only love
There’s only mercy
And believe me it’s enough
Your sins are gone
Without a trace
There’s nothing left now
There’s only grace

I heard Beth Moore say this morning that “Until Jesus comes back, we keep coming back.” Defy Satan and keep coming back again. Keep doing what I’m called to do until The Lord chooses to call me home or He returns. Otherwise, how will others be able to “taste and see that The Lord is good?” How can they sample God’s goodness without our example? That’s our calling, in whatever giftedness God blesses us with… Teaching, music, food, children, computers… Show others the goodness of God in the everyday lives we lead.
